ID Badges

COVID UPDATE - 6 January 2021

Due to the current school closures TSS are currently unable to provide Education ID Badge image capture or badge production services at present.

We apologise for this inconvenience and appreciate your understanding during this difficult period.

Technician Support Service (TSS) is responsible for the 8 year rolling program of ID Badge provision and replacement across the education estate.  This service consists of planned visits to all establishments, capturing staff images and producing ID badges for education staff.

ID Badge Scheme – COVID UPDATE

Due to the restrictions placed upon GCC staff in response to COVID-19, TSS have suspended the program of school visits to capture staff images for ID badges. TSS hope to resume whole school visits after review in early 2021.

Reminder that ID badges are valid for 8 years, therefore badges which expired after 2017 will still be deemed valid for use within education establishments until 2021.  Please see link Changes to the ID Badge Scheme for more details.

Individuals who require an ID badge must do so by appointment only at TSS .  Appointments are available on Monday and Friday at the times listed below:

9.00am – 10.30am 

11.00am – 12.10pm

1.00pm – 4.00pm

Appointments are at strict 10 minute intervals, can you please arrive on time to minimise contact with school staff and pupils, failure to do so may result in your appointment being rescheduled.  If you cannot attend at your allocated time slot, please contact TSS as soon as possible. 

Please note we cannot accept personal photographic images for use in Glasgow City Council ID Badges.

When your ID badge is ready, for security reasons, it will be delivered to your head teacher at your establishment for issue to you.  Please note that you will not be able to collect your ID badge from TSS.

Due to current demand for ID badges, there may be a delay in ID badges being delivered to your school after image capture. 


Replacement of Badges without Image Capture

In the period from issue to the planned replacement of badges various events can result in the staff concerned requiring a replacement badge. The main reasons for replacement are as follows:

  1. If any member of staff has lost their badge or it has been stolen.
  2. If the ID badge has been damaged and the image has become unrecognisable.
  3. If there has been a change to employee’s name.

Establishments who require ID Badges for any of the above reasons should contact TSS at  In many cases TSS will be able to use information from the existing ID database to produce and issue replacements to staff.

Email requests must be sent from a verified GCC email account.

Additional Weekly Image Capture Service

In cases where TSS does not hold a current image for the member(s) of staff requiring a badge, or where the staff members were unavailable on the day TSS last visited their establishment, the additional weekly image capture service is the most efficient method of badge provision.
