Electrical Safety Testing or Portable Appliance Testing (PAT)
Portable Appliance Testing (PAT) is an important part of the Council’s Health & Safety policy.
The Electricity at Work Regulations place a legal responsibility on employers, employees and self-employed persons to comply with the provisions of the regulations and take reasonably practicable steps to ensure that no danger results from the use of such equipment. This requires the implementation of a systematic and regular program of maintenance, inspection and testing.
The Health & Safety at Work Act (1974) places such an obligation in the following circumstances:
-
Where appliances are used by employees.
-
Where the public may use appliances in establishments such as hospitals, schools, hotels, shops etc.
-
Where appliances are supplied or hired.
-
Where appliances are repaired or serviced.
The level of inspection and testing required is dependant upon the risk of the appliance becoming faulty, which is in turn dependant upon the type of appliance, the nature of its use and the environment in which it is used.
PAT Testing Services
At TSS, our trained technician teams carry out rigorous PAT testing schedules on electrical appliances at various establishments throughout the estate.
We also carry out PAT testing on all our own equipment held at TSS, ensuring that all equipment used by our staff for repair testing, advanced higher support, presentational events or for loans to establishments, is provided for use in an electrically sound condition.
When an internal repair is carried out on any item of electrical equipment brought in to TSS, it is also given a full PAT test prior to being returned to establishments. The test results are held on our PAT testers and a printed report can be provided for establishments on request.
